Daimler: "I could not support without Nissan Smart"

Daimler AG chief says the agreement signed yesterday with Renault-Nissan is the only way that Smart could survive on the market.

Dieter Zetsche, chairman of Daimler, said yesterday a partnership with Renault-Nissan alliance has made a big well represented brand Smart subcompact range. According to Board President Daimler, the German company could afford not smart individual grant project, working with virtually assuring the future of Franco-Japanese brand range.

In 1998, when Daimler bought Chrysler, Dieter Zetsche was sales director of Daimler-Benz AG.
