2008 Dodge Viper 2-door SRT-10 Coupe

After a 2007 model-year hiatus, the 2008 Dodge Viper arrives with more power. This high-performance two-seat sports car comes as a coupe or as a convertible with a manual folding fabric top and heated glass rear window. Vipers have a 600-hp V10 engine, up 90 from 2006. A 6-speed manual is the sole transmission. ABS is standard. Wheels are 18 inches in front, 19 inches in rear. Side airbags, traction control and an antiskid system are unavailable. Standard features include leather-and-faux-suede upholstery, power-adjustable pedals and xenon headlights. A navigation system that includes satellite radio is newly available.
The 2008 Dodge Viper receives a new hood with functional air intake and air extractors for improved engine cooling. Boasting a total output of 600 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque, the new 8.4-liter V10 engine delivers 90 horsepower more than the previous version due to a revised block and heads, new intake and exhaust systems and Variable Valve Timing with Comical technology. The suspension includes lightweight aluminum control arms and coil-over shock absorbers while Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires replace the previous run-flats. Inside, the Viper retains the driver-oriented instrument panel and red push-button starter and now offers five interior colors with four new color combinations and a choice of finishes for the instrument bezels and center console. Five new exterior colors are added: Venom Red, Snakeskin Green, Viper Violet, Viper Orange and Bright Blue.
The Dodge Viper SRT10 is Dodge’s flagship super car model. It is a two-door, two-seat vehicle based on the Dodge Viper. The Viper SRT10 originated in 2003 as a roadster boasting an 8.3 liter V10 producing a staggering 500 HP. Three years later in 2006, Dodge unveiled the Viper SRT10 hardtop coupe. Engine output was also re-rated to be 510 HP. skipping the 2007 model year completely; Dodge introduced the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10. Although the exterior received only a minor change, (a more aggressive looking hood), the Viper’s engine was given an extra .1 displacement increase to 8.4 liters, adding an extra 90 HP, totaling it’s output to 600 HP.
The new 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 is its standout power train. For 2008, SRT ups the ante with a new, 8.4-liter aluminum V-10 engine that produces an astounding 600 horsepower and 560 lb.-ft. of torque.
The new 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10, we’ve created some very powerful artillery for sports-car enthusiasts," said Kip Owen, Director – Street and Racing Technology (SRT) Engineering, Chrysler Group. "With 600 horsepower – 90 more than before - and 0-to-60 performance in less than four seconds, the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 sets a new benchmark for the ultimate American sports car."
Exterior:-
The Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe's hard top with its "double bubble" styling makes it even more torsion ally stiff than the Roadster. The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe offers increased down force and high-speed stability with its sloping roofline and deck-lid spoiler. Plus, the Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe has an additional 6.25 cubic feet of trunk space than the Viper SRT10 Roadster, for a total of 14.65 cubic feet. The roof and headliner structure offer more room to accommodate a safety cage, while maintaining as much headroom as possible.
Interior:-
The two-person cabin carries over mostly unchanged. The aggressively bolstered bucket seats are covered in leather with suede inserts, and the instrument panel is dominated by a large white-faced tachometer. A CD stereo is standard, and on the practical side the coupe has about 14.7 cubic feet of cargo room (the roadster has 8.4 cubic feet).
Under The Hood:-
The Viper SRT10's V-10 engine now displaces 8.4 liters — slightly more than before thanks to a 1-millimeter increase in the engine's bore — and makes 600 hp and 560 pounds-feet of torque. That's 90 hp and 25 pounds-feet of torque more than the previous 8.3-liter V-10 made. The engine runs on 91-octane gasoline.
The V-10 has variable exhaust-valve timing and its cylinder heads are new. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and Dodge says clutch-pedal effort has been lessened thanks to a new twin-disc clutch, but I didn't find it especially heavy before. The automaker says the Viper SRT10 can reach 60 mph from a standstill in less than 4 seconds.
While final gas mileage numbers have not yet been announced, Frank Klaxon, Chrysler Group executive vice president for product development, said the 2008 Viper SRT10 should get better mileage than its predecessor's 12/20 mpg (city/highway) even though it makes more power and the EPA's testing procedure for 2008 models has gotten tougher.
Safety:-
Available safety features include all-disc antilock Brembo brakes and adjustable pedals.
