The Dodge Ram 3500 power trains are similar to the 2500 series, which means buyers have a choice of a 330-hp, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 or an optional Cummins 6.7-liter turbo-diesel inline-six. Regular-cab Ram 3500 models have dual rear wheels, but Quad Cab pickups can have single or dual rear wheels. The SXT model is new for 2008 and includes chrome bumpers, speed control, keyless entry and power locks, windows and mirrors.
Ram 3500 is the one-ton heavy-duty Dodge pickup. The boldly styled Ram replaces the previous Dodge pickup in 1994 and for 1998, the Quad Cab was adding. The Ram 1500 was redesign for 2002 and the heavy-duty Ram was update for 2003 with styling that distinguishes it from the light-duty truck.
The 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 adds the SXT trim level. The Laramie receives Dark Maple Burl wood grain accents, electric-shift transfer case is standard on SLT 4X4 and Laramie 4X4 and a tire pressure monitoring system is standard on all Ram 3500s with a GVWR of less than 10,000 lbs.

Heavy-duty pickups are a special breed of hauler. These full-size leviathans are built to tote and transfer major payloads and pull trailers weighing in excess of 10,000 pounds. Chrysler's entrants in this segment, which includes competitors from Chevrolet, GMC and Ford, are the Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups. Available in Regular, Quad or Mega Cab configurations, with rear- or four-wheel drive, short or standard bed lengths, shorter or longer wheelbases, single or dual rear wheels, multiple trim levels and HEMI V8 gasoline or Cummins Turbo Diesel power, these ultra-Rams offer everything the basic Ram 1500 pickup does while adding even greater all-around capability.
SLT comes standard with the 4.7-liter flex-fuel V8, six-disc CD changer, carpeting; power windows/door locks/heated mirrors, overhead console with mini-trip computer and compass, cruise control and 17-inch painted aluminum wheels. Options include a navigation system, Sirius Satellite Radio, Connect Bluetooth hands-free wireless communication, 5.7 V8, on-demand 4WD, bucket seats, six-way power driver seat and 20-inch aluminum wheels. A power sunroof and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system are available for SLT Quad Cabs.
Exterior
Quad Cab pickups, with four conventional front-hinged doors, can also be equipped with the two bed sizes and are 20 inches longer in both wheelbase and overall length. The rear doors open 85 degrees to ease access. Hoods have a pronounced crown that falls toward the front fenders.
Interior
Quad Cab models have a folding rear seat. Leather upholstery and adjustable pedals are standard in this model. Dark Maple Burl wood grain for the instrument panel and door accents is now available on quad cab models.
Safety
All-disc brakes with a rear-wheel antilock feature are standard. Four-wheel ABS is standard in the quad cab. Side curtain airbags and an electronic stability system are optional. For 2008, Trailer Sway Control was adding to the electronic stability system.
Under the Hood
The standard 3.7-liter V-6 produces 215 hp. Rams can be equipped with a new 310-hp, 4.7-liter Magnum V-8 that can run on regular unleaded fuel, E85 or a combination of the two. A 345-hp, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 is also available. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and a four-speed automatic is optional. With the 4.7- or 5.7-liter engine, the automatic is a five-speed unit. Rear- and four-wheel-drive models are available.
