2009 Dodge Dakota SLT Crew Cab SWB pickup 4-door automatic

The Dakota pickup offers a V8 engine and impressive towing capacity. The 4.7-liter V8 gained more horsepower for 2008 and got a bit smoother. The standard V6 is lackluster. The ride is more compliant than the Chevrolet Colorado and Toyota Tacoma, but it is too buoyant on the highway or with a load in the bed. The Dakota lacks agility, has pronounced body lean, and slow steering. Stability control is not available. Interior quality could be better. Reliability of all versions has been below average. The Mitsubishi Raider is essentially the same truck, but it will be discontinue soon.

The Dakota is Dodge’s pickup truck that received a design refresh for 2008 and is offer in Extended Cab and Quad Cab versions. The Dakota debuted as a 1987 model midsize truck and was actually larger than many of its compact competitors, even offering a V8 engine. The Dakota was redesign for 1997 with exterior styling similar to the full-size Dodge Ram and the third-generation Dakota debuted for 2005.

The 2009 Dodge Dakota adds the Big Horn/Lone Star trim level to replace the SXT with the Crate ‘N Go rear-seat storage system as standard and an optional 4.7-liter V8 engine. The Laramie includes standard 18-inch aluminum wheels and three new exterior colors are added: Stone White Clear Coat, Deep Water Blue Pearl Coat, and Austin Tan Pearl Coat.

Highs: Spry workhorse, great V-8 exhaust note, towing capacity.
Lows: High curb weight offsets the V-8’s power; fuel economy could be better, lots of hard plastic inside the cabin.

For 2009, the Dodge Dakota line-up is simplified, dropping from six models to four; the Extended Cab is now available as the ST and SXT, with the top-line SLT discontinued, while the Crew Cab drops its base ST trim line, and is now available as the SXT and SLT. There are also changes to the option packages, with new features added.

SLT adds heated leather-faced bucket seats, 18-inch aluminum wheels, chrome grille and rear bumper, automatic headlamps, under-rail bed liner, Satin Silver instrument panel bezel, chrome body side moldings and 3.92 axle ratio.
