2009 Dodge Charger RWD sedan 4-door automatic

The Dodge Charger is a boldly designed full-size four-door sedan which can be factory equipped from mild to wild to suit virtually any buyers needs or desires.

The Base model comes standard with a 178-hp, 2.7-liter V6 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. A 250-hp 3.5-liter V6 comes standard on the SXT; a 370-hp 5.7-liter V8 comes on R/T models; and a 425-hp 6.1-liter V8 is exclusive to the SRT8. All-wheel drive is available for Base, SXT and R/T models. Otherwise, rear-wheel drive is standard. Safety features that come standard on all SXT, R/T and SRT8 Charger models include anti-lock brakes, all-speed traction control and electronic stability control with brake assist.

The 2009 Dodge Charger gets an available all-wheel-drive system that now includes an active transfer case designed to maximize fuel economy. An available reengineered 5.7-liter Hemi engine is designed to increase fuel economy and power.

The 2009 Dodge Charger stands out from other American mid-size and large sedans for its rear-wheel drive layout, near-ideal weight distribution and with the V8s, muscle-car performance. The Charger is also quite practical, though, with a smooth ride, good interior, trunk space and decent fuel-efficiency on V8 models due to the included Multi-Displacement System (MDS), which can temporarily shut down half of the engine's cylinders when they are not need. The SRT8 model is a bona fide performance sedan, with acceleration and braking performance that is competitive with some of the top sport sedans from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audio.

This sedan offers a powerful 5.7-liter Hemi V8, making it quick but returning only 17 mpg overall. The 3.5-liter V6 provides ample performance and returned 19 mpg. The ride is stiff and frequent ride motions make the car feel unsettled. The overly light steering makes the large Charger dirty and demands constant attention, although handling is ultimately secure. The otherwise-roomy rear seat has marginal headroom. A 6.1-liter, V8-equipped SRT8 is also available. IIHS crash-test results were poor when tested without the optional curtain air bags. Reliability of the V6 is average, but it scored too low in testing to be recommended.
