The Challenger is Dodge’s two-door rear-wheel-drive coupe that is one of the most recognized names and faces from the pony-car era and returned to the Dodge lineup for 2008 after a 35-year hiatus. The design of the new Challenger, which debuted as a concept at the 2006 North American International Auto Show, remains true to its heritage, but the Challenger benefits from modern technology to deliver a completely new level of performance. The R/T and SE join the limited edition 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 for the 2009 model year to complete the Challenger model lineup. Limited to just 6,300 units, each 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 includes carbon fiber-look hood stripes and a numbered dash plaque.

Supplemental Side-curtain Air Bags extend protection to all outboard front- and rear-seat passengers
Anti-lock Brakes (ABS) modulate the brakes for the driver to provide steering control while braking
Electronic Stability Program (ESP) applies selective braking or throttle reduction to control overseer and under steer
Brake Assist ensures maximum braking action during panic stops
Traction Control reduces the throttle and/or applies selective braking to optimize traction during acceleration
Hill Start Assist (HSA) for Manual Transmission application assists the driver in launching the vehicle on an incline
Automatic Headlamps turn headlamps on at dusk and off in the daylight without driver intervention

Challenger R/T features a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 rated at 370 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque with a five-speed automatic. R/T adds heated outside mirrors, body-colored rear spoiler and mirrors, metal fuel filler door, leather-wrapped wheel and shifter, illuminated visor mirrors, dual chromed rectangular exhaust pipes, and fog lamps. Mechanical upgrades to accompany the added power include 18-inch aluminum wheels and wider tires, stability control, bigger antilock brakes, and firmer suspension. Options include leather upholstery, navigation system, 368-watt Boston Acoustics audio system, bi-xenon headlamps, 20-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels, hood-into-fender stripes and functional hood scoops, keyless go, remote start, compact spare tire, Home Link, a trip computer with performance pages (128 functions total), and steering-wheel audio/data controls. The Track Pak ($995) adds a six-speed manual gearbox with twin-disc clutch and pistol-grip shifter, limited-slip differential, load-leveling shocks, performance steering, hill-start assist, bright pedal covers and different mufflers.

Safety features on Challengers include dual frontal airbags and side curtain airbags front and rear. Antilock brakes with brake assist, stability control and traction control are available on the R/T.
