The Dodge Caliber was launched as a 2007 model. For 2008, the high-performance Dodge Caliber SRT4 joins the lineup.

The Caliber is Dodge's small-car line and is offered only in one body style, as a tall five-door hatchback. Caliber SE models with the five-speed manual transmission are estimated to achieve 30 mpg on the highway. The Caliber is offered at a very competitive price and stands out for its versatile interior and for the wide range of innovative features that are offered, such as the music gate tailgate speaker system, Chill Zone beverage storage and rechargeable flashlight. Moreover, for those who require more performance, the SRT4 has the hard-edged driving experience of a tuner car.

The Dodge Caliber SE last had a manufacturer update on 06/16/2008. The 2008 Dodge Caliber is available in four trims: Base (in FWD and 4WD), SXT, SE, and SRT4. Engine choices for the Caliber include a 172 horsepower 2.4L in-line four-cylinder engine, a 148-horsepower 1.8L in-line four-cylinder engine, 158 horsepower 2.0L in-line four-cylinder engine, and a turbo charged version of the 2.4L engine. The Base, SXT, and SE engines are mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic transmission. The SRT4 equipped with the turbo charged 2.4L engine is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission. Optional equipment includes a six-disc radio with cassette and MP3 CD play capability, Chill Zone, SIRIUS satellite radio, and a Protection Group that includes front and side air deflector, door entry guards, and rear mud guards. The Dodge Caliber SE was introduced in 2007; no information is currently available on upcoming changes.

Small cars are becoming increasingly more versatile, and few vehicles better epitomize this trend than the 2008 Dodge Caliber, a combination hatchback, wagon and SUV. Although Dodge's most affordable offering, the Caliber is no bargain-basement car. Models range from a fuel-efficient economy car to a powerful all-wheel-drive variant and include such appealing options as a flip-down rear speaker bar, built-in bipod holder and a refrigerated beverage cooler, features you will not find on the Volkswagen Rabbit or Mazda3. Then again, the plastics used to form the interior are not as sophisticated or handsome as those inside the VW and Mazda, an important issue for many perceptive young buyers.

The 2008 Caliber is a 4-door, 5-passenger wagon, available in 5 trims, ranging from the SE to the SRT4. Upon introduction, the SE is equipped with a standard 1.8-liter, I4, 148-horsepower engine that achieves 24-mpg in the city and 26-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The SRT4 is equipped with a standard 2.4-liter, I4, 285-horsepower, turbo engine that achieves 21-mpg in the city and 26-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The 2008 Caliber is a carryover from 2007.
