Dodge's full-size sedan shares a basic design with Chrysler's Concorde and 300M but has different styling. It comes in base SE, uplevel ES and sporty SXT trim. The SE uses a 200-hp 2.7-liter V6, the ES a 234-hp 3.5 V6. Building on ES models is the SXT version that has a high-output 250-hp 3.5 V6. SXT versions share a 16-inch wheel size with the other Intrepid, though of a unique design. All Intrepid have a 4-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel disc brakes are standard. ABS is optional and, on the ES, includes traction control. Front side airbags are optional; side curtain airbags are unavailable. Front bucket seats are standard, but an optional bench for the SE permits 6-passenger seating.

The new SXT model kept the 3.5 liter High Output motor, increased to a 250 hp (186 kW) power rating. The SXT moniker was eventually used across the Dodge product line as a trim level. The Intrepid SXT was basically a base model Intrepid SE with the 3.5 H.O. engine taken from the R/T. It was a value trim model actually classified as an ES (SXT), but had less features than the ES did with a more powerful motor.

The Intrepid SXT offers a strong value. The SXT is essentially a value-priced version of the top ES model that includes a high-output engine, chrome wheels and a spoiler. It's a good package, boasting quicker acceleration performance, top-model features and a lower price than the ES.

SXT is powered by a 3.5-liter V6. Equipped with single overhead camshafts and a multi-plenum intake manifold, the 3.5-liter engine produces 234 horsepower in the ES, but 244 horsepower in the SXT.

Complementing the added power of the SXT are 16-inch chrome wheels, P225/60R16 all-season touring tires, touring suspension, a deck lid spoiler, and a bright exhaust tip.

The new SXT model is supportive and comfortable. The standard bucket seats provide good back and lateral support and the detailing of the fabric is world-class.
