Dodge's full-size sedan shuffles its high-performance models for 2003. Intrepid shares a basic design with the Chrysler Concorde and 300M but has different styling. It comes in base SE, up level ES, and sporty SXT trim. The SE uses a 200-hp 2.7-liter V6, the ES a 234-hp 3.5 V6. Building on ES models is the new SXT version that inherits from the discontinued R/T a high-output 3.5 V6, now at 250 hp. The SXT does not include the R/T's specific suspension tuning or its 17-inch wheels. SXT versions share a 16-inch wheel size with the other Intrepid, though of a unique design. All Intrepid have a conventional 4-speed automatic transmission; the R/T had used Chrysler's Auto Stick with separate gate for manual shifting. Four-wheel disc brakes are standard; ABS is optional and on the ES, includes traction control. Front side airbags are optional; side curtain airbags are unavailable. Front bucket seats are standard, but an optional bench for the SE permits 6-passenger seating.
The Dodge Intrepid returns with minimal changes to the exterior and interior. Some of the changes for the 2003 model year include a new optional six-disc in-dash CD changer, three new exterior colors and 16-inch Momentum chrome wheels on the SXT. The SXT models are equipped with a High Output 3.5L V-6 engine that delivers 244 horsepower, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob and a Rear Spoiler. The top-of-the-line ES offers automatic climate control, fog lamps, leather seats, auto day/night mirror and a theft deterrent alarm system. An optional ABS braking system is available on all models and includes traction control on the ES.
