The 2008 Chrysler 300 is available eight trims: Base, Touring RWD, Touring AWD, Limited RWD, Limited AWD, C RWD, C AWD, and C SRT8. Engine choices for the 300 include a 2.7L V6, a 250 horsepower 3.5L V6 or a 5.7L V8 HEMI engine, which generates 335 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque. All engines are mated to either a four speed automatic transmission or a five-speed automatic transmission wit Auto Stick. Standard equipment on all models includes traction control, power convenience features and keyless entry remote system. An electronic stability control system, leather seats and chrome aluminum wheels are standard features on the higher end trims.
Touring's 3.5 V6 is adequately quick, even with AWD; Chrysler quotes 9.0 second 0-60.In Consumer Guide testing, and 300s with the 3.5 V6 averaged 19.5 mpg in rear-drive form, 19.7-19.9 with AWD. Test 300C averaged 14.4 mpg in mixed driving, 17.9 mpg with more highway use. Test AWD 300C averaged 16.8 with a slight highway bias. The 300's ride is generally smooth, though some of our testers complain of annoying jiggling on rippled freeways. Ride is less composed on AWD models, with sharp pounding over road imperfections. SRT8 is impressively smooth, despite 20-inch tires and firmer suspension tuning.
